पेशी
पेशी हा जिवंत सृष्टीचा लहानात लहान घटक आहे असे सर्वसाधारणपणे म्हणता येईल. व्हायरससारखे अति सूक्ष्म जीव मात्र त्याला अपवाद असतात. आपण पेशीबद्दल थोडक्यात माहिती घेऊया.
- चित्रात दाखविल्याप्रमाणे पेशीला एक आवरण असते. माणसाच्या शरीराला कातडी असते तसे.
- पेशीच्या आजूबाजूला अनेक रसायने असतात. त्याला आपण आजूबाजूची रसायने असे म्हणूया.
- त्यामधील काही रसायने पेशींना संदेश देणारी असतात. उदाहरणार्थ, अ हे रसायन संदेश देणारे आहे असे समजुया.
- अ हे रसायन पेशीमधील ब या रसायनाकडे जाते.
- ब हे रसायन पेशीमधील मध्यवर्ती केंद्राला कोणते द्रव्य बनवायचे याची माहिती देते. मध्यवर्ती केंद्रात आपण मागील सत्रात बघितलेला डी.एन्.ए. असतो.
- डी.एन्.ए. जवळच एक देंद्र असते. तेथील आर्.एन्.ए. या द्रव्याला तो आज्ञा देतो. व त्याप्रमाणे आर्.एन्.ए. तेथे प्रथिने बनविण्याचे कार्य करतो.
- या सर्व कार्याला शक्ती लागते. पेशीमध्ये एक शक्तीनिर्मिती केंद्र असते. या केंद्रात ए.टी.पी. नावाचे द्रव्य तयार होते. सर्व जीवित सृष्टीत ए.टी.पी. हे शक्ती देणारे रसायन आहे. ते म्हणजे जीवित सृष्टीचे चलनच आहे असे म्हणाना.
या सर्व रसायनांची नावे वाचून गोंधळल्यासारखे होईल ना? एक लक्षात ठेवा की जिवंत सृष्टी म्हणजे एक रासायनिक कारखानाच असतो. मग तो व्हायरस असो किंवा वनस्पती किंवा प्राणी. यामध्ये प्रथिने कशी तयार होतात त्याचा घटनाक्रम वरती दिला आहे. पुढील सत्रात आपण वनस्पतींबद्दल अधिक माहिती घेऊया.

Cell
A cell can be regarded as a smallest unit of living world. Viruses like very small assembly of molecules are exceptions. Brief introduction of cellular function is given below.
- Cell has a wall (shown in figure 1), just as human being has skin.
- Cell is surrounded by number of chemicals floating in semiliquid medium. We call it as external environment.
- Some of the chemicals in the external environment act as messengers. In the figure it is shown as (A)
- It carries message to (B) inside the cell.
- B carries the message to the centre where DNA is there.
- As per message received DNA gives instructions to RNA located nearby. RNA in turn mobilizes machinery to prepare requisite proteins.
- All the above interactions require energy which is provided by a chemical called ATP (Adenosine triphosphate). There is a centre for energy production. ATP can be regarded as currency of the living world.
Do not try to remember the names of various chemicals. Remember one thing — whether it is a virus, plant or animal, it is like a chemical factory. What we have described is the sequence of chemical interactions which ultimately lead to production of proteins.
